Lazy Girl Spring Decorating

I’ve been using the Lazy Girl Decorating method for several years, and it works! Not only has it made decorating for each season easier and more enjoyable, but as a bonus, I’ve also become a better decorator along the way.

The beauty of this method is in its simplicity and smart planning. Instead of overwhelming myself with a full seasonal overhaul, I break my decorating into three easy-to-manage phases:

I break seasonal decorating into three categories…

  • Early Season
  • Mid Season
  • Late Season

Early Spring is the foundation of my seasonal decorating. First, I establish my spring color palette, which sets the tone for everything that follows. Then, I shop my house or pick up a few key pieces to freshen up my space. This is also when I remove any lingering winter decor without dragging out big blue bins or over-complicating things. A few light touches like airy textures, soft hues, and subtle nods to spring are all needed.

Mid-spring is when spring decorating is in full bloom. I bring in more organic fresh flowers, budding branches, or pretty faux greenery—that complement my spring color palette. A touch of Easter decor makes its way in as well, but since I started with a light base, I can add without overdoing it. My home feels fresh, festive, and completely decorated for spring.

Since I’ve been living with my early spring decor for a while, I can easily see what’s missing and where I can add without cluttering up my space.

After Easter, I transition into late spring decorating by removing Easter-specific decor while keeping the fresh and airy feel of the season. I replace spent organics with new ones (real or faux) and keep everything feeling crisp and light through April and May.

Then, about a week before summer decorating begins, I slowly start taking down spring elements, giving my home a good refresh before the next season rolls in.

This brilliant and easy method keeps seasonal decorating simple, stylish, and stress-free. Up next, here are four Lazy Girl Decorating Tips to ease into spring without the overwhelm!

Choose Your Spring Color Palette And Mood

Decorating should always begin with defining your color palette and the mood you want to create in your space. Color sets the foundation for a well-designed room, influencing how it feels and functions throughout the season.

If you need guidance, my post 8 Things You Should Know About Color is an essential read. It will help you choose and use color palettes that work harmoniously with your home’s existing decor.

This year, I’ve been drawn to warm, rich tones. Since last fall, I’ve favored browns and yellows—especially gold and butterscotch. These colors feel both sophisticated and inviting, and they transition seamlessly from season to season.

I’ve also considered incorporating blue into my palette. It’s a classic spring color that pairs beautifully with warm tones, and I may still add it as the season progresses. However, I decided to start with browns and yellows as my primary accents. It’s fresh, cheerful, and naturally reflective of spring’s brightness.

When selecting a spring color palette, think about what feels both timeless and refreshing. Whether you prefer soft pastels, earthy neutrals, or vibrant hues, the goal is to create a cohesive look that enhances your home’s overall aesthetic.

Once your color palette is in place, the rest of your spring decorating will come together effortlessly. Next, let’s explore how to make simple yet effective changes that ease your home into the season.

Consider What Spring Decor You Are Going To Use

How many times have you wanted to decorate for spring, only to realize your seasonal decor feels outdated, mismatched, or uninspiring? It happens to all of us. That’s why now is the perfect time to take stock of what you have and curate a collection that feels fresh and intentional.

Start by going through your spring decor and selecting only the best pieces—the ones that truly excite you. There’s no need to use everything. A more edited approach creates a cohesive seasonal look without feeling cluttered or overwhelming.

This is also the time to assess what might be missing. Organic elements—such as fresh or faux flowers, budding branches, or woven textures, add a natural softness that enhances any spring space. If your collection needs an update, now is a great time to find quality pieces that complement your chosen color palette. With spring decor sales happening now, it’s the perfect opportunity to add a few timeless accents that will serve you for years to come.

Thoughtfully choosing what to display will make your home feel curated and effortlessly styled for the season ahead.

Take Down Winter Decor

Spring is the season I recommend removing all preceding seasonal decor in one day. Unlike fall or Christmas, most of us don’t decorate heavily for winter, so the transition can be quick and seamless. However, if you love decorating for winter and have a lot of seasonal decor, don’t feel pressured to do it all at once, just start with one room at a time.

One exception to this is bedding. Removing heavy winter bedding and dressing your bed for spring takes more time and effort, so tackle that separately when you’re ready.

I started my own transition by focusing on the living room. Here’s how I approached it:

  • Removed winter textiles like pillows and thick throw blankets
  • Clear and deconstructed the coffee table, putting away the winter books I had styled there
  • Assessed decor pieces. Kept the orchid on the coffee table since it still looked fresh and moved it to the dining room to join my other orchids

Once everything was stripped down, I took the opportunity to deep clean and organize the space before bringing in anything new. A clean, decluttered home is the best foundation for seasonal decorating.

If you’re ready to reset your home before spring, my Ultimate Cleaning and Decluttering Guide is full of helpful tips to make the process easier and more efficient.

With a fresh, clean space, you’ll be ready to start adding spring touches.

Add A Few Spring Textiles

Once your space is clean and refreshed, the easiest way to start easing into spring is by swapping out textiles. Lightweight fabrics and fresh colors instantly shift the mood of a room, making it feel lighter and more seasonal.

Right now, I’m keeping things simple by adding just a couple of new, inexpensive white and butterscotch pillows to the white spindle chairs in my living room. These subtle touches bring in warmth and a hint of spring without feeling like a major overhaul.

Textiles are an effortless way to introduce seasonal color and texture without clutter. Consider adding:

  • Lighter throw blankets in cotton or linen instead of heavier wool and knits
  • Pillows in fresh spring hues that complement your color palette
  • Soft, airy curtains to replace heavier winter drapes

Since I prefer to decorate in layers, I’ll add more spring textiles later in the season. But for now, just a few intentional changes create a refreshed and inviting look.

Decorate One Surface In A Room

When transitioning into spring decor, less is more. Not every surface needs to be decorated, and sometimes, focusing on just one area in a room makes a bigger impact than filling every available space.

In my sunroom, I have three major flat surfaces. I chose to start with the coffee table. It’s a central focal point, and a simple, thoughtful arrangement of pansies sets the tone for the rest of the room.

For a fresh, early spring look. Pansies are a perfect choice since they naturally bridge the gap between late winter and early spring. They bring a delicate, organic touch without feeling overly seasonal.

There’s no rush to get all your spring decor up at once. Spring decorating should feel intentional and effortless, not overwhelming.

A good rule of thumb: Create one spring centerpiece or arrangement per room. This keeps your decor focused, balanced, and uncluttered while still celebrating the season.

That’s it for now. Simple, effortless, and perfectly in tune with the season. As spring unfolds outside, I gradually add more decor, letting my home evolve naturally. And as the season begins to fade, I start to remove pieces, keeping everything feeling fresh and intentional. No big overhauls, no extra clutter! Just smart, beautiful decorating.

I hope you’ll give Lazy Girl Decorating a try this spring. It’s an easier, more thoughtful way to transition your home for the season. One that brings beauty without the stress. Start small, decorate in layers, and enjoy the process.

Happy (and effortless) spring decorating!

The best way to decorate your home for spring is with spring flowers and other seasonal organics, like spring branches. Also

The first day of spring is in March. However, many of us get spring fever as early as February. It really depends on you.

Decorate for Easter by adding a few iconic Easter items like colored eggs and a handsome bunny. When using Eastery things, less is best. Don’t overdo an Easter theme. Save that decor for an Easter table.

Can you please tell me where to buy faux paperwhites with their bulb? I cannot find them in our stores here in Florida. Thank you so much, love everything you do !!!

      1. I don’t replace my heavy drapes until March or April as we have surprising snowfalls and winter temps in late winter and early spring. Love many of the other suggestions to start thinking of spring!

  2. Wonderful suggestions and photos! I make very small changes to go from spring to summer so that part is easy…. And I do it a lazy girl way! I only store Christmas decor in 6 totes in the garage and attic, and anything for any other season has to fit in 3 trunks in the house and my storage in my wood end tables that are lidded and sturdy cubes basically. Pillow covers and floral stems are the main things I hold onto for season changes. Living in a small one level house I do not have a ton of stuff, and I do purge and donate “least favorite things.” I always love having my real plants, too. :).

  3. I could not locate your Spring Tour. Sunday’s post, The Eternal Active God, came up on Monday. I am looking forward to your Spring Tour. Thank you for all you do to help each of us decorate our homes!

We are still getting snow and extremely cold weather so haven’t brought out any faux flowers yet. I am just catching up on reading all your posts! We have just moved into a new 55+ condo and are gradually getting settled. We love our new place and it overlooks the river so the view is wonderful! We had our name on the list for over 5 years and were first on the list. So we were very blessed to get the top floor when our complex was finally ready to move into.
Thanks for your posts that give us such great information. Bless you, Yvonne, for all you do for us. I appreciate all the time you spend in doing this.
