Spring Door Decoration- hero shot

There is nothing quite like a pretty door decoration to greet you and your guests as you come home. It is such a simple way to add a fresh and inviting touch to your front door. Today, I am sharing how to make a beautiful and easy spring door basket that will brighten your entryway and make your guests feel extra welcome.

A door basket is a charming alternative to a traditional wreath. I love how versatile and easy they are to create. You can fill them with fresh flowers, faux blooms, greenery, or a mix of both. The best part is that you can change out the contents as the seasons change. I used faux white cherry blossoms and white ranunculus for spring.

A door basket adds such warmth and hospitality to your home. It tells your guests, “You are welcome here,” before they even step inside. Plus, it’s an easy, fun project you can finish in less than an hour. So grab your supplies, put on some music, and enjoy creating something beautiful for your home this season.

Materials For Making A Spring Basket For Your Door

Use what you have! I found everything for this project in my basement! These pretty apple blossom branches have been used every spring for over 15 years! You might have everything you need already if you, like me, like to decorate your home for spring.

Pro Tip

When looking for faux organics, buy the best you can afford and get them on sale.

Beautiful, life-like spring branches and blooms may be pricy, but they usually look more realistic in the long run and last for years! Over the years, high-quality faux organics have been a true bargain.

Materials:

  • One bucket-type basket with a handle to hang from the door.
  • Faux blooming branches or flowers, or both
  • Pretty ribbon (you can see the ribbon I used HERE)

This basket has a pretty French look so I continued the theme!

Tie A Ribbon Around The Basket And Make A Bow

Hot glue a ribbon around the basket and tie a bow in the front. Secure the bow to the ribbon around the basket with hot glue. Then, cut French tails at the end of the ribbon.

Add Spring Branches

Hang up the basket to add the branches. I hung the basket on the back side of my front door. It made styling much easier!

Add the branches to the basket. The branches I used were very long, and I did not want to cut the stems shorter, so I rolled the end of the stem around my hand, which made the branches very stable in the basket. You can add floral foam or pinecones to the bottom of the basket to fill it out and stabilize the branches.

Attractively arrange the branches.

Two branches were the perfect amount for this arrangement. I spread them out from one side of the basket to the other.

Add Extra Flowers

If you like the look of the branches, you don’t really need to add extra flowers. But you might like to add a few more spring blooms to this pretty basket.

I used three sprays of ranunculus in the front of the basket to add a layer of interest and spring charm.

Creating a pretty and easy spring door basket is a simple way to add warmth and charm to your home. It’s a project that can be done quickly with things you may already have, and the results are always so rewarding.

You’ll be greeted with a beautiful arrangement that welcomes you and your guests with the fresh feel of spring. I hope this inspires you to create one for your own home.

  1. What a beautiful and unique basket arrangement. I absolutely love it!

  2. I would love to decorate my front door, however when I decorate it, I have a problem with either birds or wasps building nests in the arrangement. Does anyone have a humane solution for my dilemma?

    1. As a deterrent to the birds, tuck a small plastic snake where the birds might land. As for the hornets and wasps, lightly spray the flowers with lysol.

        1. For wasps, I’ve used Bounce dryer sheets on my boat to deter them. And another possibility would be to use the wool dryer balls with essential oils. Do a search for which oils repel the insects you are worried about and to make sure you want that smell by your front door. You might be able to use the essential oils directly on your flowers or ribbon.

I also have the problem with birds nesting in my grapevine wreath . I have a covered porch and some just seek shelter during cold nights. I have to remember to shake the door and open slowly since I have had birds come into the house and that is a pain to chase them out. During the spring nest building season, if I start seeing twigs by the wreath, I just remove the wreath for a few days.

Such a beautiful basket for your front door, Yvonne! Thanks, once again, for such a great idea! I am going to get my spring stuff and make some. Blessings!

  4. Hi Yvonne, I love this idea! I’m so tired of the same forsythia wreath. I don’t have a basket but I do have an old fishing creek just gathering dust ? I’m on it ! Btw, I also love your menus, they always give me ideas. Thank you!

  6. What a lovely idea! I’m an English city gal whose just moved to a real life farmhouse cottage in rural France and I use so many of your ideas. 1. Hi Kerrie, you are living my dream! I would love to live in a farmhouse cottage in France for a little while. The basket will look so pretty on a farmhouse door. I can just imagine it.

  7. Would love ideas for decorating a double front door for spring.

    1. I’ve decorated quite a few double doors and the best way is to create two big mirror image wreaths to hang on each door. Also, flank each door with pretty planters. Such a pretty look! I hope this helps.

  8. Can you share how you hang the basket on your front door please? Do you have a permanent hanger for all your beautiful door decor?

  9. Love your door basket. I have a dark green door. What colors could I use?

    1. Almost any color would look pretty with a dark green door. Keep the green foliage light so it shows up. Hope this helps, Janet.

  10. Just love this! Thanks for this post-I’m so inspired! Just wish “The Basket Lady” had a hanging basket for sale on her website…
