For me, winter is a time for stripping down my decor and giving my home a bit of a decor rest.
I know many of you may transform some of your Christmas decor to work as winter decor. Like using a bowl of pinecones on your coffee table or keeping up garland on the mantel. And if you like that, use it.
When Christmas is over I am over Christmas. As a blogger, my home is decorated in October so I can share ideas with you. So I want to decorate with pretty and simple items that really don’t nod to any season in particular.
THE COFFEE TABLE CHALLENGE
I like to challenge myself and see how many super easy arrangements I can make for my coffee table using the same objects. For this winter decorating idea, I used 10 not particularly wintery items.
I rummaged around the basement and our home and this is what I found…
I’ve done this same thing for spring coffee table decor and really enjoyed the process. You might like to read 14 EASY SPRING COFFEE TABLE VIGNETTES USING 10 ITEMS.
My goal was to come up with simple winter decor ideas. So let’s chat about coffee table decorating ideas that will take minutes to throw together!
I’m using my sunroom coffee table to create these vignettes but they would look just as nice on a living room coffee table. These ideas will also work on a console table, buffet, or side table. And with just a little tweaking they would easily transform into a centerpiece for your dining table too.
A wicker basket is one great way to corral all the decor on a coffee table. It gives a vignette a boundary and focuses our eye on the content it contains. It also helps to create a stable flat surface for a vignette if this vignette were to be used on an upholstered ottoman or coffee table.
Baskets often have a farmhouse or relaxed vibe. They add texture and are must-have home decor accessories!
One super easy way to create instant beauty on a coffee table is to group things in threes! There is magic in the number three because our eyes love things in odd numbers, especially in threes! Such an easy designer trick.
This vignette has no basket or tray but is neatly grouped in the center of the coffee table. For winter, I like to style decorative objects as simply as possible.
It gets dark early in winter so using lanterns or candles will create a vignette with beautiful ambiance and glow!
I like to use these candles in lanterns because they are the more realistic-looking battery-operated candles with timers and a remote. Their flame is amazingly real!
For winter, I took the jackets off of the books to reveal their pretty muted cover colors that worked with my coffee table decor!
The little faux fern plant is small and very close to the same size as the vase of hydrangeas. So I used books to add height and importance to the fern because it is the center item in this winter coffee table decor.
I often use books I have covered or somehow altered to create texture and keep the color palette of my decor tight. These books look fabulous as fill-in decor too!
EASY WAYS TO COVER BOOKS
No matter what time of year, a coffee table will look so pretty when fresh flowers are part of your design.
Even just a couple blooms in a glass vase can add so much life to the room it’s in!
I don’t have much of a green thumb when it comes to indoor plants, except for herbs, so I opt for plants I can’t kill. Faux and real plants are a welcome addition to any winter coffee table!
ADDING FLOWERS OR GREENERY TO A ROOM ADDS LIFE.
Think about tucking little potted plants into your winter decor!
My sweet daughter-in-law, Abigail, gifted me a pair of fern prints in thin gold frames. Pictures like this one look so pretty on a coffee table. And using them in the winter gives a much-needed lift to our lives!
I find small pictures look best when they are perched on top of a pile of books. They need the height for a bit of presence.
Winter decor does not have to be leftover from Christmas. Think about adding simple, clean-looking winter decor to your home. And start by creating a simple and pretty winter coffee table vignette.

Yes, you are right.
I can’t find the clear vase and stems when I search at Pottery Barn! Can you give me more information? Thank you,
Linda
Please show us what you would do with an cupboard that has 3 shelves.
Yvonne,
Good ideas for that inbetween season. Just was removing the pinecones and faux evergreens from outside as well as in our familyroom. Just cleaning and polishing wood furniture. I did put up a new large picture over our mantle that I bought the other day at a thrift shop. I love it and will just take my time deciding what to add to the mantle to enhance it. Maybe nothing but some brass candle sticks and faux tapers. I am not one to decorate for Valentines Day other than some fresh flowers and maybe some little candy hearts in a small cloche. February is a month I just keep things simple and I enjoy the rest.
What great ideas Kathy! You should have a blog.
Silly question?. Wondering … I have always displayed my items on my coffee table with the fronts facing those sitting on my sofa. Is this correct? What about small framed items?
It all depends. In my sunroom, I like to face my things out toward the room so that when I look in I can see them.
Great post! Lots of good ideas. I also like to keep things simple after the holidays. It’s a good time to de-clutter, clean, and look forward to Spring. I look forward to your blog every morning.
I love the little white finial in the second picture. Can you tell me where you got it?
Hi Debbie, I found this little white finial more than a decade ago at HomeGoods. Sorry, I don’t have a source.
Help Yvonne! When I click on any Pottery Barn item, it just takes me to the site but then I can’t find that specific item! Thanks,
Linda
That probably means that the item is out of stock. Sorry, Linda
The soft colors are just just beautiful.
YYvonne, I always love seeing how you style your coffee tables — so pretty! Flowers always look so cheery on a coffee table — especially in the winter. I love the look of items placed in a wicker tray. You always give us to many great ideas! Thanks, again, for sharing with us! Just love your posts!
Thank you Mary Ann. Keep warm.
Hello Yvonne,
In one of your earlier posts you showed an elongated oval wooden coffee table. Could you tell me your source? Sorry I can’t locate in your source list❤️⭐️. Thank you for all you do!
We love this coffee table. It is the 48 inch one. See it here:https://rstyle.me/+qsNLuBf2DwLvj2-vfGOnaA

Thank you Gail, Happy New Year to you!
Not pertaining to this post, though great ideas. Question about you recipe for the best loaded potato soup. I’ve been making for several years. I know sometimes bloggers revise their recipes. Have you changed anything from 4 + years ago? I haven’t made it in a while and made it yesterday. It just seemed different and not quite how I remembered it. Thanks.
No it’s the same. I have not updated this post.
