Welcome To Home Style Saturday #348
One more day until the Super Bowl! Our excitement is through the roof! Our family are rabid big Eagles fans. But more than that, we love football. The passion runs deep, woven into the very fabric of our family for generations. Among us are players, coaches, cheerleaders, and steadfast fans who live and breathe the game.
Years ago, I learned an important lesson about being a true fan at Yankee Stadium. I was carrying an 8 x 10 silk oriental rug cradled like a baby as I crawled up into the nosebleed section of the stadium, but that story is for another day. Our 10-year-old son was proudly cheering for the opposing team, and we quickly found ourselves on the receiving end of boos, many spicy words, and even unwelcome cigarette butts being lobbed from above us. As we tried to leave because things were getting out of hand, a group of intoxicated young men blocked our path to the exit. Thankfully, security noticed and stepped in, guiding us safely out.
As we were leaving, I turned to one of the guards and apologized for causing a commotion. His response has stuck with me ever since. “Don’t apologize. Your son is a fan of the game. Those men are not. We welcome all true fans of the game.”
So, as we gear up for tomorrow’s big game, let’s celebrate, cheer until we’re hoarse, and most importantly—be true fans of the game! Fly Eagles Fly!
