Greeting God Each Morning: A Life Changing Habit

How do you greet the day when you open your eyes each morning? More importantly, how do you greet God? Making God the most important part of our day can have a major impact. Let’s talk about the habit of spending time with God each morning.
The Discipline Of Prayer
Let’s face it, prayer is a discipline.
It takes a conscious effort to make prayer a habit!
The Bible teaches that prayer unleashes great power, comfort, wisdom, hope, blessing, joy, and so much more. Isn’t that a wonderful way to start each day?
My daughter-in-law’s mother often quotes this verse: This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it, Psalm 118:24. I have been saying it with gusto for several years now. It’s a reminder that each day is a gift from God, a fresh new day! It’s a new day to look for all the good God is doing in our lives and celebrate God and all He does for us!
And here’s another verse to memorize to wake up to: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23
Jesus set the example for us. He would get up very early in the morning, go to a quiet place where He would not be disturbed, and spend time with His Father! And rising very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he departed and went out to a desolate place, and there he prayed. Mark 1:35
Jesus knew that He could not face all the demands and trials of His day without first spending the very beginning of it with God! It was God’s power and presence that gave Jesus the power to do God’s will.
We, too, can be powered by God! If we do not spend time with God and in His word, we start each day with a huge deficit! Prayer is food for our souls!
When we wake up and make God a priority, we power our day and start it with the right attitude!
Creating A New Habit
Experts say that it takes, on average, sixty-six days to create a habit.
Here’s my challenge: Will you get up each morning, open your eyes, recite Psalm 118:24, and look for ways to rejoice and be glad? And then will you find a quiet place and spend time talking to God and reading His word? First thing in the morning, even if you have to get up early to do it!
Will you do this for sixty-six days? Let’s develop a life-changing habit together. After sixty-six days, it’s my prayer that God shows Himself so big in our lives! I hope that we are more joyful and can handle problems better. I know that we will no longer imagine starting our day without God!
If you are unsure where to start reading God’s Word, start by reading the Book of John. You might also like to read the Psalms and Proverbs. Knowing God Through The Psalms and Practical Wisdom For A Foolish World are two posts I think you will find very helpful.
A Verse To Keep In Mind

Thought you’d like to know that God led me to read this post on this first day of the new year. I was talking to him about the unhappiness I feel about my current circumstances (my wonderful dad passed on December 9th and my 92 year mom is suffering from Parkinson’s and osteoporosis – I’m their caregiver). I know circumstances don’t have to steal my joy – and so God led me to your blog with Psalm 118:24 and Lamentations 3:22-23. God bless you.
God bless you Carrie! I’m so sorry for the loss of your mother. May the Lord comfort and strengthen you and fill you will the joy that surpasses all understanding.
