Organic Christmas Decorations In The Dining Room
Discover creating a beautiful and harmonious Christmas dining room using real and faux organics. Get inspired with tips for incorporating natural elements like paperwhites, grapevines, and more for a festive and inviting holiday space!
Welcome to part 2 of our Organic Christmas Home Tour! In part 1, I shared our living room, dressed for Christmas, along with tips for incorporating organics into your holiday decor. If you missed it, you can catch up on part 1 of our tour HERE.
This year, my Christmas decor is a bit different from anything I’ve done. What it lacks in glimmer and shine, it makes up for in natural beauty. My goal was to bring the outdoors inside in a way that is consistent with our home’s aesthetics.
A Peek In The Living Room
The star of our Christmas decor is our tree. The goal was to highlight iconic Christmas elements like evergreens and pinecones while adding the colors and textures of items like leaves, pods, and dried hydrangeas left over from fall. This year’s color palette is green, copper, and brown because of its earthy look.
I wrapped it in grapevine and embellished it with faux organics. The final touch was to add pinecones and acorn ornaments.

The Dining Room
Our downsized home is very open, and the dining room is the most open space. It’s perfect for entertaining because it is next to our kitchen and living room. So, the Christmas decor in this room follows the same organic aesthetic as the living room.
I love the windows in our home. Light floods our home all day long. The downside is that our rooms are often a bear to photograph!
Our dining room has just enough room for a table, chairs, and bar cart.
How To Achieve Harmonious Decor
When we hear the word harmony, our minds often go to the way voices or instruments come together to create a beautiful blend of sound. The drums can’t overpower the flutes, and the violins must sing above the trumpets in just the right balance. Similarly, harmony in decorating is about how all the elements in a room—especially accent pieces—work together to create a cohesive, curated look.
In the dining room, my goal was to achieve a harmonious aesthetic using a mix of real and faux organics, keeping the design cohesive but never overdone. With the Christmas tree, mantel, and other organic decor in the living room already making a statement, it felt important to me to carry that look into the dining room but also provide a visual pause to keep the overall feel fresh, restful, and inviting.
Using Wreaths
As I said in Part 1 of this Christmas Tour, “Wreaths are quintessential Christmas decor!” I made a very easy evergreen wreath from a a fall wreath. If you have a stash of bits and pieces of Christmas greens you can make one too.
I have always loved the look of wreaths or some kind of decoration on the back of dining room chairs, so I revered the wreath-making process. I used old evergreen wreaths and hot-glued in bits and pieces of leaves left over from the fall wreath. The result was four smaller wreaths that looked about the same as the bigger one in the living room.
I would not have put wreaths on the backs of our dining room chairs if the Christmas tree had not made a partition between the two rooms. I also did not put greens on the top of the basket pendant over the table. I think another green arrangement would be too much and spoil this open room’s overall harmony and look.
Because the dining room chairs are completely upholstered I tied a burnt orange, thin velvet ribbon around the wreath and attached it to the chair with a pin. Then I hot glued a tiny pinecone over the pin.
Growing Paperwhites For Christmas
Paperwhites are some of the most beautiful flowers associated with Christmas—a true organic luxury. And yet, they’re surprisingly affordable! I picked up 10 bulbs for less than the cost of a bouquet from the grocery store.
These versatile flowers can grow in almost any container, but I especially love them in tall glass hurricanes. While they may look unassuming now, give them a week, and they’ll transform. The bulbs will start to grow green leaves, eventually filling the space between the grapevine, and their gorgeous white blooms will stretch gracefully toward the top of the glass. Even better, their heavenly fragrance will soon fill our home, adding a touch of magic to the season.
Paperwhites don’t need soil to grow, making them incredibly easy to style. I use brown pebbles as a base for the bulbs and surround them with white stones for added support. To tie the arrangement back to the grapevine accents on our Christmas tree and mantel, I tucked thin vines inside the glass hurricanes for a subtle, cohesive touch.
Looking down from the top, you can already see the green stems and leaves beginning to sprout—a sure sign of the beauty to come! Look for an post about forcing paperwhite bulbs coming soon.
Pinecone candles and pinecone candle holders continue another organic theme in our Christmas home.
Christmas-Inspired Plants On The Bar Cart
Since last spring, I’ve been growing plants indoors. Most of them are unusual because they are outdoor annuals and perennials. For our organic Christmas, I’ve gathered bulbs, rosemary and lavender plants fashioned as Christmas trees, and a myrtle topiary.
The bar cart has become a fun growing station and an important part of our organic Christmas decor.
One Bit Of Whimsey
A touch of whimsy is always good for Christmas cheer. The tall musical angels, though not connected to my organic Christmas theme or aligned with my chosen color palette, bring me so much joy. They’re tucked away behind a square column, visible only from the kitchen or dining room—a little hidden treasure that never fails to make me smile.
The dining room is where we gather, share meals, and make memories, and I love how the organic decor brings a sense of warmth and connection to nature into this small but versatile space. Remember, decorating for the holidays is about more than just how things look—it’s about creating an atmosphere that brings joy to you and your loved ones.
