Take Pictures Of Your Christmas House

As a blogger, I have a running visual record of my home decorated for Christmas. I love to see how things have changed over the years! The pictures I’ve taken over almost 15 years have helped me remember the decorations I liked the best, so I can recreate them again,

So, before the hustle and bustle of Christmas morning, capture the beauty of your home all decked out for the holidays. A quick photo tour can preserve the memory of this year’s decorations and inspire future designs. Start at your front door and work your way through your home. Snap a picture of your favorite tree, mantel, or holiday table. These moments will become treasured keepsakes for years to come.

Put Your Shoes Outside Your Bedroom Door

When our grandbabies come for Christmas, they put their shoes outside their bedroom doors so Santa can fill them with goodies.

Borrow this sweet tradition from the Netherlands, where children place their shoes outside their rooms to be filled with goodies. Even if there are no little ones in the house, surprise your family members by tucking small gifts, treats, or handwritten notes into their shoes. It’s a simple yet delightful way to spread joy.

Sing Christmas Carols

Christmas music and jingle bells

The only time I miss having a piano is at Christmas! If you don’t have any instruments to accompany you, put on your favorite music and sing!

Of all the days of the year to sing, this one is it! As a matter of fact, have Christmas music playing from the second you get up until you go to bed! This will create tons of Christmas spirit.

Night Before Christmas Gift

Since Bobby and I were first married, we have given each other a night-before Christmas gift. And we do the same for our children and grandchildren. I bet so many of you do this, too. Let me guess, is it pajamas? Everyone in our home gets a nice new pair of fun jammies! And sometimes they match! Everyone looks so sweet in matching jammies! Again, take pictures.

Go To Church

Christmas Eve feels holy to me! Every year, we attend Christmas Eve service, which puts Christmas into perspective!

Celebrate the true meaning of Christmas with a Christmas Eve church service. Whether you attend a candlelight service or a nativity play, this tradition is a beautiful way to reflect on the spiritual significance of the holiday. Make Christmas Cookies

My new love of baking is almost an obsession! I’m going to wake up early on Christmas Eve morning and bake cookies while listening to Christmas carols.

Spend part of the day baking a batch of festive treats. Whether decorating sugar cookies or experimenting with new recipes, baking fills the house with delicious aromas and creates a joyful atmosphere. Make enough to share with neighbors or leave some out for Santa!

One of our neighbors just brought us sand tarts and molasses cookies. They are delicious! Thanks, Sandy.

Here is a recipe for my favorite Sugar Cookies. This is a very old post, but the recipe is the best!

Make Christmas Breakfast Casserole

No matter how big or small Christmas brunch is, we always have Christmas Breakfast Casserole. We make the same recipe every Christmas! There would be a Christmas uprising if it were changed! 🤣

Ease the stress of Christmas morning by preparing a breakfast casserole the night before. This make-ahead dish is a family favorite.

Wrap Last-Minute Christmas Gifts

Turn the often hectic task of gift-wrapping into a relaxing and festive activity. Put on some holiday music, have a cup of mulled cider or your favorite drink, grab your favorite ribbons and paper, and create beautifully wrapped presents. It’s a great time to reflect on the joy of giving.

Watch Your Favorite Christmas Movie

Our first married Christmas Eve, Bobby and I watched It’s A Wonderful Life, which has become a Christmas Eve tradition. When we get home from church, we pop the cork on some bubbly, snuggle up in our new pajamas, and watch George Bailey, Clarence, Zuzu, and and all the others working out a Christmas miracle in Bedford Falls.

End the evening on a cozy note with a Christmas classic. Choose a family favorite, or let everyone vote for this year’s pick. What’s your favorite Christmas movie?

Go See The Lights

I LOVE LOVE LOVE going for a long drive to see all the good, bad, and so ugly Christmas lights! Actually, we usually do this on the way home from church. But this year, we are doing our Christmas Eve drive a few days early.

Bundle up, grab some hot cocoa, and take a drive to admire the twinkling Christmas lights in your neighborhood or town.

I hope I’ve given you a few ideas you can use to make your Christmas Eve special and memorable! Now, it’s your turn! Please share your favorite Christmas Eve activity!

Thank you for sharing your wonderful ideas and decorating tips! Your recipe for Seafood Boil will be on our Christmas Eve dinner menu. We are having a quieter, smaller celebration with just our 2 adult sons. We picked a great family memory of vacationing in the Outer Banks together to guide this year’s dinner celebrations.

    1. Oh, my goodness! What a wonderful Christmas Eve meal! Merry Christmas.

  2. Every Christmas Eve we have a buffet of charcuterie, shrimp, dips, stuffed dates, candy, homemade Christmas cookies, and bakery bread. Christmas music is playing and after everyone has eaten we head to the living room with our eggnog and open presents. As a kid my Dad always worked Christmas Eve. We had a tavern and he always stayed open to make sure those who didn’t have anyone would have a place to congregate and celebrate with others. My mother, brother, and I would go to Midnight Mass, then come home to watch The Bells of Saint Mary’s, drink egg, and wait for my father. When he got home (usually around 4:30 AM) we opened gifts. Christmas morning we all slept in; as we had already attended church. Christmas Day was always dinner with extended family and playing with cousins and showing off our Christmas presents. Now it’s just me, my daughter, and 2 grandkids. Cousins all have their own families, my brother lives out of town, and my parents are deceased. Really miss our Christmases together.

  3. My husband and I have many Christmas Eve memories, both of our almost 50 years together, as well as childhood remembrances. We enjoyed a stir fry meal and will spend a little time reading scripture, as well as thanking God for his gift of Jesus. Also adding a few bows and making sure the grandkids’ gift piles are even. Relaxing tonight, as tomorrow will be spent with 5 granddaughters. Will be crawling into bed early to watch a favorite Christmas movie. Have enjoyed your wonderful ideas and beautiful home again this year. Praying for you and yours to regain health.

  4. Wishing you and your family a joyous and blessed Christmas! Thanks for the inspiration all through the year. May God bless you and your family.

  6. Have a wonderful Christmas. I enjoy all your stories. I also get so many decorating tips from you. Now that most of our older relatives have passed on we have a quiet Christmas Eve. But Christmas Day will be filled with our sons and family. Merry Christmas to you and Bobby.
